I really enjoy yoga. I’ve taken a fair amount of classes and done home practice. Each time I practice, I feel so good after. I think that is what keeps me coming back.
If you have ever considered trying out yoga, I say go for it! Yoga is for all body types and all levels of fitness. Even if you are not flexible at all (like me), you can still do yoga!
One thing I don’t like about the classes is the cost, which can be a little pricey. I’ve noticed that this can be a barrier to people getting started. And plus there are a ton of free workouts online and on apps. I’ve been keeping an eye out for free (or cheap) classes as a way to still enjoy yoga while saving some $$. So if you’ve been interested in trying out yoga, but don’t want to pay for a class, you’re in luck.
Please note that for the at home practices you might want to have your own mat. I’ve found affordable yoga mats at places like Ross, Target, Amazon and the Yoga Outlet. Alternatively, you could also use a towel or just practice on the floor.
Yoga Studios
Most studios offer some sort of “new student” promo, like a free class or even a free week of classes. Not only is this a cool way to get free classes, but it is a neat way to check out a variety of studios. It could be fun to shop around with a friend!
If you are beginning with yoga, ask the studio which classes they recommend you try first. Try a variety of classes. For example, Yin Yoga is very different than a Power Yoga class. The various types of classes will appeal to different people based on your interest. It’s nice to check out the variety and see what is a good fit for you. Most studios provide mats that you can use for free during your class.
Yoga With Adriene
Yoga With Adriene (YWA) is great! I’ve enjoyed all of the videos I’ve tried on her YouTube channel. Adriene is a fun teacher who seems very approachable and friendly. I love the setting where she films the videos, it feels cozy and like we are just hanging out in a nice place. I recommend trying her 30 Days of Yoga. A great option if you are just getting started. I went through this and loved it.
Nike Training Club
This is another option that you can do wherever you have an internet connection. The Nike Training Club is a free app that has TONS of great workouts! They have some awesome yoga workouts. The practices range from short to long, and beginner to advanced, so there is something for everyone. Download the app, grab your mat and head to the park to practice a little yoga outside!
Athletic Apparel Store
Did you know that stores like Lululemon and prAna offer free classes in store? I attended a class at the Lululemon near me. The class was held on a Sunday morning before the Lululemon store opened. The class is always different because they invite different studios/instructors at each time (at least at the store I went to). prAna stores offer classes like yoga and barre. To find a free Lululemon class near you, check out their community page. Similarly, to find a free prAna class, find the prAna store closest to you and then check out their Facebook page. You may want to bring your own mat or check with the store to see if they will have some available.
Groupon
Ok, this isn’t a free option but does greatly reduce the price. I see offers in my area for classes all of the time on Groupon. This can be another great way to check out different studios and save you some money!
I created this list to help remove the barrier of cost from trying yoga. I’ve found yoga to be something very enjoyable to do for a workout or just as a stress reliever. And a great way to practice self-care! I encourage you to try it out too!
Let me know if you try anything out and if you have any tips for other places to score free classes!
