My husband, Seth, runs Spartan Races. This year he decided to do the Spartan Race in Dallas, Texas. So I decided to tag along under the condition that we go to Waco, TX to visit Magnolia Market.
If you don’t know, Magnolia Market is Chip & Joanna Gaines’s store in Waco, TX. Chip & Joanna are the stars of the popular HGTV show, Fixer Upper. Magnolia Market is a large property in downtown Waco that consists of two huge silos, a 20,000 sq ft barn, food trucks, a bakery, and a garden supply store. All of this encloses a community gathering square where people can eat, hang out on the lawn, and play games.
We arrived at Magnolia Market on a Friday afternoon around 2pm. I had heard that the market can get very, very busy. Luckily for us, it wasn’t too busy during our visit. There was a very long line for the Silos Bakery, but otherwise not too bad!
When we entered Magnolia Market, the first thing I noticed was how big the Silos are. We had driven by them, but once I was standing at the foot of the silos, it was rather impressive to see in person. I especially liked the green lawn in the middle of the square. The pop of color was so inviting and made me want to relax with an iced coffee and a great book.
We decided to shop in the Magnolia store and the Garden & Supply store before eating. The Magnolia store is in an old grain barn. It is so big! Inside there were so many beautiful home items, as well as Fixer Upper merchandise. There were many things I wanted to buy, but because we were flying I wasn’t sure how to get everything back home. So I settled for a cute magnet.
The Garden & Supply store was much smaller, cozy and very cute. There was pretty much what you’d expect to see in a garden store, but with a definite touch from Joanna Gaines. The aesthetics of everything was so nice. I particularly loved all of the succulents and the flower garden in front of the store.
After browsing the shops, it was time to eat. For lunch, we ordered from the Cheddar Box food truck. Seth and I got the “Guac This Way” and “That’s My Jam” sandwiches. Oh. My. Gosh. It was so good! We both ate one half of each sandwich. They were so tasty! The flavors all mixed well together and the cheese was perfectly melted. Sometimes I think grilled cheese can taste like a lot of cheese and that’s about it. Not in this case. Everything came through and blended together deliciously. We also got a side of their mac & cheese. I wasn’t much of a fan of this. I thought it was a bit heavy and needed some caramelized onions or something else to offset the flavor.
Next, it was time for dessert! Luckily someone had tipped us off to purchase cupcakes and cookies from the Silos Baking Co. food cart rather than standing in line for the bakery. The bakery has more variety of pastries and cupcake flavors, but we were ok with sacrificing variety for waiting in a shorter line. We waited in line at the food truck for about 15 minutes, not too bad! Plus, fewer options meant it was easier to decide what to get. I decided to order one of each! We got 5 cupcakes (Silobration, Campfire, Pumpkin, Lemon & Lavender, and Strawberries & Cream) and 3 cookies (Sugar, Silobration and Chocolate Chip). The Campfire and Sugar cookie were by far the best. I wish I could order more to be shipped to my house!
After visiting the Magnolia Market, we drove over to Clint Harp’s furniture store, Harp Design Co. Clint does a lot of the woodwork on Fixer Upper. The store was cute and featured a lot of beautiful items. Be warned though, it is not cheap. We enjoyed looking at everything and it was a nice visit.
Finally, we decided to visit Joanna’s original store on Bosque Ave. This Magnolia store still has the sign with the fun lettering. When we got there, the store was open and was selling clearance items that came from Magnolia Market! So I snagged a cookbook and two t-shirts. Plus, I got 10% off since I had purchased something from Magnolia Market (bring your receipt from Magnolia Market).
Overall we had a great time. If you’re a fan of the show and are going to be in the Waco area, I would recommend a visit! I’m still thinking about the grilled cheese sandwiches!
